The school opened in 1958 and was built by the London County Council. It was initially built to host close to 2,000 students. It developed a reputation for examination results and lousy performance and in 1998 it was put under special measures.

In a effort to bring the school up to date, a brand new management team was set in place and the school formed a partnership with School Works, an initiative that uses layout to improve the approach and results of neglecting schools and better direction. A £30 million bundle resulted in a state-of-the-art building utilising an improved environment and the existing constructions for the students The school was recently identified as one of typically the most popular state secondary schools in the nation.
